Dr. Wolfram Mey

• Born: 1. 3. 1953 in Arnstadt, Thuringia, Germany

• 1971: Abitur ”Ernst Abbe” Gymnasium Eisenach,

• 1972 – 1973: military service

• 1973 – 1978: student of biology at ”Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg”

• 1980 - Promotion to Dr. rer. nat. at ”Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg”

• 1978 - 1986: assistent in the Plant Protection Research Institute, Kleinmachnow

• 1986 - 1990: assistent in the Lepidoptera section of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin,

• 1990 – until today: curator (Kustos) of the Lepidoptera/Trichoptera Collection

Tasks

• Curator (= Kustos) of the Lepidoptera and Trichoptera Collection (Butterflies, Moths, Caddisflies)
• Service for the international entomological community (e.g. loans, exchanges, reviews, inquiries, information, etc.)

Research

Research interests

Focus of research on Systematics, Biodiversity and historical Biogeography of Trichoptera, aquatic Lepidoptera and Micro-Lepidoptera in Africa and South East Asia.

• Basic pattern of Lepidoptera diversity in southwestern Africa
• Identification book to the Lepidoptera of southwestern Africa
• The caddisfly fauna of the Philippines
• Inventorying Trichoptera and Micro-Lepidoptera (Insecta) in the Páramo of Colombia
