The zoological invertebrae collections are the most comprehensive collections at the Museum für Naturkunde. In total they comprise about 25 Million items of molluscs, such as snails and mussels, as well as cephalopods, corals, sponges, sea urchins, crustaceans, worm-like vermes, arachnids and insects. The entomological collections are the most extensive collections with more than 15 million items.

The collections have been built up with material from all over the world during the last 200 years and contain many type specimens - unique objects as examples of an organism described by scientists from all over the world.
