FAQ – General information

  • The children's birthday programmes have been designed to suit the interests and abilities of children aged 5 and over (dinosaur craft party or birthday tour) and 8 and over (journey into the past, by day or by night). Due to space and staffing constraints, a maximum of 15 people can take part in the birthday tour and a maximum of 10 children in the birthday workshops. Please note the age requirements and the maximum number of participants.

  • Children's birthday parties can be held on Tuesday through Friday afternoons (starting at 15:00) and on Saturday and Sunday mornings or afternoons. We offer the "Journey into the Past – By Night" programme exclusively on Fridays and Saturdays, with start times between 18:00 and 19:00. Each birthday party lasts three hours.

One-hour guided tours for birthday parties are available at any time during the museum's opening hours. Afterward, you are welcome to explore the museum independently with the children. The museum is closed on Mondays.

  • Please bring your own drinks and something to eat. You do not need to bring plates, cups, cake forks, or napkins; the birthday table is already set and decorated.

  • Over 450 children already celebrate their birthdays at our museum each year. Although demand remains consistently high, we are unable to expand our offerings further due to a lack of additional space.

  • Eine Übersicht zu Kindergeburtstagen in anderen Berliner Museen finden Sie auf der Website von Jugend im Museum.

FAQ – Booking

  • You can book children’s birthday parties by emailing bildung@mfn.berlin.

Your enquiry should include the following details:

    • preferred birthday programme (Dinosaur Craft Party (ages 5 and up), Journey into the Past (ages 8 and up), Journey into the Past at Night (ages 8 and up), Birthday Tour (ages 5 and up))
    • Date and time (+ at least two alternative dates)
    • Age of the child at the time of the party (please note the age recommendations for the respective programmes)
    • Name and postal address of the birthday child
    • Your name, telephone number and email address
    • Details of any requests or special requirements
  • Due to high demand, we recommend booking well in advance. In particular, slots at weekends and during the autumn and winter are often fully booked 1–2 years in advance. For 2023, bookings for children’s birthday parties can only be made from September 2022 onwards. Please note that prices are subject to change.

  • At present, there is no charge if you need to cancel a booking. However, please do let us know in good time by email, at the latest two days before the booked date. This will prevent one of our guides from travelling to the museum for nothing and incurring additional costs for the museum. It will also allow us to reallocate the slot.

By cancelling in good time, you are helping to ensure that the current costs for children’s birthday parties are maintained and that events can continue to be booked without additional administrative hassle.

FAQ – On-site

  • Unfortunately, there is very limited parking at the museum. However, it is very easy to reach by public transport via the Naturkundemuseum underground station. You can find detailed travel information here.

  • You can pay at the museum ticket office in cash, by debit card or by invoice. Please provide a billing address for this. After the ticket office closes, unfortunately only cash or invoice payments are accepted.

The meeting point is the information desk in the museum; after the museum closes at 6.00 pm, entry is via the right-hand side entrance of the museum. You will be met here by a member of the museum’s educational team. Please be punctual and allow an extra 10–15 minutes for the cloakroom and, if necessary, to purchase tickets.

  • If you arrange this in advance, you may, in urgent cases, bring your birthday cake to the Education and Outreach Department office a few hours beforehand. Unfortunately, we have limited refrigeration facilities.

  • Our children’s birthday party programmes are supervised and led by a museum education guide at all times. However, you remain responsible for the supervision of all children. For this reason alone, we ask that you are present throughout the party.

  • For children’s birthday parties that finish by 6.00 pm, the children will be taken to the museum ticket office; for those finishing after 6.00 pm, they will be taken to the museum’s side entrance on the right. They can also be collected from there.
