As a launch for the new book: 'Explaining Taxonomy To A Bird', the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and Wellcome Trust will host a special online event that presents the premiere of a new film-version of Simon Faithfull's performance-lecture of the same name.
In this short film-essay Faithfull explores how humans have attempted to name, classify and impose order onto the tangled web of species with which we share this planet. The lecture is illustrated using the artist's many drawings, writing and video-works that explore our relationship with the 'aliens' that surround us. The book 'Explaining Taxonomy To A Bird' documents Faithfull's large installation made within the museum in the summer of 2019. Following the online premier of the film, there will be a live discussion between Faithfull and the museum's biologist and bat expert Dr. Simon Ripperger .
