Kaffeeklatsch mit Wissenschaft

bis

The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin presents the next Kaffeeklatsch with science in February. Get ready to get exciting insights from scientists into their work while drinking coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is welcome to ask questions and contribute to the conversation.

This time the guest is geoscientist Uwe Altenberger, who is researching in the field of structural petrology at the University of Potsdam. For decades he has been working in South America, China, Italy and Scandinavia. His work focuses on the deeper regions of our earth's crust: What happens there under high pressure and high temperatures? How and why are these areas deformed? Which deposits can form there? In recent years, research has been added to the exploration of deposits of high-tech elements such as lithium and rare earths. Andesites, volcanic products, are also the subject of his investigations, especially in the South American projects.

Every year a committee of experts under the leadership of the BDG Berufsverband Deutscher Geowissenschaftler e.V. (Professional Association of German Geoscientists) selects rocks that are remarkable for their geological formation and economic importance. What is exciting and interesting about andesite and why it is the rock of the year 2020, you will learn on February 2nd in our experimental field. Bring your coffee thirst and exciting questions with you!

As always, Franziska Sattler will be the moderator.
