The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin is an integrated research museum of the Leibniz Association. The collection as the most important research infrastructure enables scientists to conduct intensive research. Events such as the Long Night of the Sciences are a good opportunity to share knowledge with society and to engage in dialogue with visitors.

Programme:

Live Science

5:00 p.m. - midnight

We develop and digitize the collection of wasps, bees and ants. In this process, you can talk to the researchers and learn more about the scientific necessity of the cataloguing.

Of nightingales, tardigals and urban nature - discover, marvel and experiment!

5:00 - 10:00 p.m.

Get out of the building and into the backyard! The Citizen Science project "Research Case Nightingale" together with the Research Workshop Agricultural and Environmental Education, HU Berlin, brings science into urban nature.

Chiribiquete: Where the gods live.

Go with us on a journey to the origin of the earth and mankind.

Chiribiquete is a window to the origin of the earth and mankind because of its unique and little explored biodiversity and its extraordinary cultural characteristics. The WWF, the Colombian Embassy and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin are working together to research and conserve the world's largest national park.

Alexander von Humboldt - Tracing the Mineralogical Collection

Within the framework of the guided tour, the scientific treatment of the minerals and rocks collected by Alexander von Humboldt will be reported and some selected pieces will be presented.

Take a look at our spider collection. A scientist and a curator report on old and new things from the kingdom of the eight-legged creatures and their accommodation in our research institute.

Fledermausnacht: In the footsteps of night hunters

Magic garden or forecourt

How do bats orient themselves in the dark? How and what do the flying mammals talk about? What do bats have to do with bananas and tequila? And what is the truth about the rumours about bloodsuckers?

Join us in lurking and dive into the fascinating world of bats with the help of ultrasound microphones, thermal imaging cameras and headlamps to answer these and many other questions.

Citizen Science - what is it all about? // What is citizen all science about?

Everyone talks about Citizen Science, but what is it and how does it work?  How do you imagine an informative platform about Citizen Science and what would you like to find there?  All ideas, crazy or simple, are welcome. // People are talking about citizen science - but what exactly does it mean? How does it work? Join us and help the Museum für Naturkunde and its partners create a useful, usable platform for citizen science in Europe - and help people find the answers to these questions!

Microscopy Centre at the Museum of Natural History

Numerous stations in the microscopy centre invite you to discover the diversity of small creatures and immerse yourself in the world of science. You are also welcome to bring your own finds and objects with you.

Action stands in the Sauriersaal and at T. rex TRISTAN

Dinosaur droppings, ammonites, minerals - these are just a few of the objects that you can microscope at an action stand in the exhibitions. Children can also take part in the search game "Schau genau" or a dinosaur quiz.
