Educational materials (in German)

These resources enable children and teenagers to explore the museum and the nature independently, either during or after their visit. Many of the resources can be downloaded and used free of charge.

Museum Rally

Children and families can also discover the museum on their own with the search game. Questions give hints about the objects they are looking for and guide them through the exhibition areas. There are currently two rallies for different age groups. Only in German!

 

Explorer Sheets

The colourful and imaginative explorer sheets enable primary school children to go on their own journey of discovery in the Museum. They can answer questions, measure dinosaur teeth, invent stories or draw pictures. There are currently two types of explorer sheets available only in German.

The sheets can also be purchased for € 1.00 from the museum shop.

Worksheets

With our free worksheets, teachers and pupils can explore scientific topics in a way that is age-appropriate and hands-on. The materials are based on the exhibitions and key research areas of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and are suitable for various year groups – ranging from dinosaurs and taxidermy techniques to the Earth system. Only in German!

 

Colouring and craft activities

Download these printable activity sheets, inspired by exhibits in our exhibition and enjoy coloring, cutting and crafting them. It is best to print the masks and the craft sheet on slightly thicker paper. Only in German!

 

For children aged 5 to 10

Jurassic Adventure Box

Inside the box, children aged 5 to 10 will find everything they need to excavate and identify fossils:

  • 15 different fossils,
  • tools,
  • several playing cards and
  • a large-scale map showing the habitats of the animals and plants of that era. 

In this playful way, children learn about the world of the Jurassic period. The Jurassic Adventure Box can be used anywhere there is a sandpit.

The Adventure Box can be borrowed free of charge from the museum. Contact: bildung@mfn.berlin

Dimensions of the box (approx. 8 kg):

  • 58.5 cm long
  • 38.5 cm wide
  • 32 cm high

The box is also available in a rucksack version that is easy to carry.

MIGRATION, MUSEUM & ME (creative cardset)

For years 7 to 9

MIGRATION, MUSEUM & ME is a free, modular learning material and was developed by the eight Leibniz Research Museums together with the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung. Students approach the topic of migration through selected objects from eight museums. The material can be used exclusively at school, but can also be combined with a visit to the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. Only in German!

Human-made environmental changes (Interactive teaching and learning materials)

For years 9 to 13

Over the course of two lessons, pupils are introduced to the concept of the Anthropocene. They explore the digital collection and contribute items to it themselves. By sharing their own perspectives and focusing on their personal experiences, they reflect together on the relationship between humans and nature in the context of human-made environmental change.
