City Nature Challenge 2026: Biodiversity at Tempelhofer Feld

The City Nature Challenge (CNC) has been taking place worldwide since 2016. In this friendly competition, cities compete against one another to record as many plant and animal species as possible in urban areas, in the spirit of citizen science.

We will explore Tempelhofer Feld together, focusing on the bird species found there – but all other organisms count too! We will also practise using the iNaturalist app to record all our observations for the City Nature Challenge Berlin. The data collected helps to document and protect biodiversity in our city. Mathilde Bessert-Nettelbeck from the Red List Centre will lead us across the field.

A mobile device for uploading your observations is essential for taking part in the event. Please download the iNaturalist app in advance.

Please also bring the following:

✔ Binoculars (if available)
✔ Weatherproof clothing and, if necessary, a notebook

Note: This event is not a traditional nature walk. The focus is on observing and reporting various animals, plants and fungi on the iNaturalist reporting platform.
