Workshop

Helping to shape the future of water

Your contribution matters: We are gathering a range of views on water-related change in Berlin and Brandenburg and engaging in dialogue with decision-makers from politics and the public sector.

Water is a key issue for Berlin’s future: a growing population is leading to an increase in the volume of drinking water and wastewater. At the same time, the climate crisis and the phase-out of coal mining are posing major challenges for the water supply.

Policy initiatives such as the joint ‘Capital Region Water Strategy 2050’ of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg are designed to address these challenges. However, it is also clear that this can only be achieved in collaboration with the citizens of Berlin and Brandenburg.

Event programme:

Session 1: How is the water situation in Berlin and Brandenburg changing as a result of climate change and the phase-out of coal? We’ll explain the basics and why political action and public participation are so important when it comes to water!

Session 2: What concerns you about water? Where do you experience the effects of change in your everyday life? What can be done?

Session 3: The third session is a water forum involving all VHS centres, where we will discuss the findings and perspectives gathered so far with representatives from research, politics and public administration – for a fair water future in Berlin and Brandenburg.

The workshop is taking place as part of the project “Wasserzukunft. Voices from Berlin and Brandenburg” in partnership with the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment. Funded by the LOTTO Foundation Berlin.
