Palaeontology
The palaeontological sub-collections document the evolution of life throughout Earth’s history. They include fossils of animals and plants, as well as inclusions in amber.
The palaeontological sub-collections bring together extensive holdings of fossil vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as collections of modern and fossil plants. They provide insights into the evolution of organisms, past ecosystems and long-term changes in biodiversity.
The collections have been assembled over more than two centuries and include numerous type specimens as well as objects of significance to the history of science. They serve as a basis for taxonomic, stratigraphic and evolutionary biological research and allow comparisons between fossil and modern life forms.
