The Berlin Hub for Science and Society (BHS2), a bridging programme of the Cluster of Excellence ‘ImmunoPreCept’, is an emerging Think and Do Tank dedicated to research and practice in the fields of Science Communication and Public Engagement (SCaPE). We are particularly interested in understanding the value and impact of SCaPE to both societal and academic actors in preventative medical research. Our aim is to build a robust evidence base that informs policy and drives sustainable change towards a globally engaged research culture.

The ImmunoPreCept Cluster of Excellence focusses on identifying factors that promote health and those that contribute to illness. The overarching goal is to shift medicine toward long-term health, resilience, and prevention. Complex health challenges, like early disease detection and prevention, can’t be solved by researchers alone. Clinicians, policymakers, patients, and communities need to be engaged partners in defining problems and testing solutions. We develop strategies and formats to increase the impact of engagement and accelerate the shift towards preventive medicine.

BHS2 creates spaces where science and society meet. We bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, patients, advocates, and other relevant stakeholders. Our research and practice spans multiple domains: fostering cross-disciplinary dialogues on complex societal challenges, establish sustainable frameworks for long-term collaboration, and develop best practices in science-society interactions. We don’t just study engagement, we practice it, continually refining our methods based on what we learn.

Cooperation partners

The Berlin Hub for Science and Society, a bridging programme of the Excellence Cluster ImmunoPreCept, is a consortium of five institutions.

  • Max Delbrück Center (MDC) Berlin, Germany
  • Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH)
  • Deutsches Rheuma-Forschungszentrum (DRFZ), a Leibniz Institute
  • Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics (MPI-MG)
  • Museum für Naturkunde (MfN), a Leibniz Institute

Events

The Berlin Hub for Science and Society organises various events several times a year. We look forward to engaging with patient groups, clinical professionals and representatives from business, industry and politics. If you have any questions, please contact mhairi.stewart@mfn.berlin.

Get in contact

As part of the expansion of our research profile, we would also like to connect with researchers and practitioners in the fields of science communication and public engagement. We are currently developing a programme for peer exchange and welcome enquiries regarding collaboration as an associate researcher at BHS2.
