In the project „Bringing Biodiversity to the Neighborhood—Gardeners and neighbors working together with civil society organizations, scientists and other urban stakeholders to promote biodiversity in urban nature“ community gardens serve as experimental sites for gardening practices that promote biodiversity. The resulting interventions are implemented in the community gardens and carried over into the surrounding neighborhoods.
To guide neighborhood residents in greening their urban living, working, and learning environments, so-called BioDivHubs are being established in four model neighborhoods. They serve as a tool for raising awareness, fostering participation, providing advice, and supporting neighborhood residents. For example, the BioDivHubs offer workshops, guided tours, and online Q&A sessions. Through appropriate campaigns and participatory approaches, neighborhood residents are encouraged to take part in the creative process of identifying measures and to implement these measures under guidance.
Key findings:
- Interventions developed through co-creation: Catalogue of measures
- Over 20 biodiversity measures have already been implemented in the community gardens, as well as 17 measures in the model neighbourhoods, accompanied by numerous related educational activities
- Ongoing ecological and socio-ecological accompanying research
