Educational ecosystem "Museum in the School"

Various stakeholders learn from and with one another

Learning from and with one another

Together with our partner schools – Gustav-Falke Primary School, Carl-Friedrich-von-Siemens Secondary School and Luisenstadt Primary School – we have established an educational ecosystem in which various stakeholders (teachers, educators, museum staff, students, graduates of the Voluntary Ecological Year and school pupils) can learn from and with one another and contribute their individual expertise and experience.

The project focuses on enabling pupils to engage in open and participatory learning. With looking into the future, the ‘Museum in the School’ educational ecosystem helps to support pupils in their lifelong learning journey, fostering the development of their future-oriented skills as well as their personal and identity development.

Projects throughout the school year

Through projects running throughout the school year, the museum becomes an integral part of science lessons and, thanks to its uniqueness and authenticity, facilitates other forms of learning, such as inquiry-based learning or collaborative learning.

Since the project began, pupils, teachers and educators have been actively involved in building the educational ecosystem. This has resulted in remarkable digital and analogue outputs on a wide variety of topics, such as dinosaurs, wild bees or inclusion in the museum. In addition to podcasts and animated films, they have created virtual worlds and artistic objects such as sculptures, mobiles or animal masks.

Network and other cooperation partners

Furthermore, a network has been established in which interested educators from other schools and out-of-school learning venues, as well as from the Berlin Senate Department for Education, collaborate and form part of the educational ecosystem through exchange and networking.
In addition to the schools, we work with the Schul-Umwelt-Zentrum Berlin Mitte, the Jugendkunstschule Pankow and the mobile language lab Trickmisch. Our partners contribute their expertise to help pupils realise their ideas artistically or to facilitate experiences of nature.

Society and Nature

We study how knowledge about nature is generated, how it is utilised in society, and how science and society work together to develop solutions to environmental challenges.
