Reinickendorf Coordination Centre for Nature and Environmental Education

Education on nature, the environment, climate and sustainability in the Reinickendorf district is coordinated by the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin – for schools, nurseries and other educational institutions.

Since 2023, the Museum of Natural History has been the organisation responsible for the Coordination Centre for Nature, Environment, Climate and Sustainability Education in the Reinickendorf district. The main task of the Coordination Centre is to promote environmental education programmes to schools, nurseries and other educational institutions, to build networks with providers and users, and to support green learning spaces. Together with the other district coordination centres, they work within the NaturStadtBerlin network to promote a conscious and sustainable approach to our natural environment, as well as better coexistence within our society. The coordination centres are funded by the Reinickendorf District Office.

In Reinickendorf, diverse woodland and water landscapes meet vibrant urban neighbourhoods. Out into nature and into the city – this needn’t be a contradiction, because in Reinickendorf you can experience and enjoy nature with all your senses in many places. Many motivated individuals and organisations offer educational and experiential activities and encourage you to take a closer look: at urban nature, the climate, our resources, gardens and lakes, or sustainable urban development. The borough is changing, and this is evident, for example, at the former Tegel Airport, where the newly reclaimed open spaces are being transformed into a green, sustainable and multi-purpose urban neighbourhood.

Society and Nature

We study how knowledge about nature is generated, how it is utilised in society, and how science and society work together to develop solutions to environmental challenges.
