Human-nature relationships in the Anthropocene
Key research area
The Human–Nature Relations in the Anthropocene working group investigates how people perceive, evaluate and shape nature – and what role these relationships play in societal transformations.
The focus is on the Anthropocene as an era of profound human intervention in the Earth’s natural systems. The working group analyses how these changes affect social practices, values and decisions.
Key areas
Our research combines perspectives from the social sciences, natural sciences and cultural studies. We explore questions relating to understandings of nature, biodiversity, urban habitats and the role of digital technologies in human–nature relationships.
A particular focus is on urban spaces, where challenges such as climate change, biodiversity and social issues converge.
Research in practice
In projects such as Berlin’s community gardens, we combine academic research with citizen science and investigate ecological and social dynamics simultaneously. This yields not only scientific insights but also concrete approaches for sustainable practice.
