TheMuseumsLab
African-European programme for collaborative learning and museum development

Research and practice

TheMuseumsLab working group develops and runs an international programme that promotes exchange between museum professionals from Africa and Europe. The focus is on joint reflection on the role of museums in a globalised world.

TheMuseumsLab helps to build international networks and establish long-term partnerships. It strengthens exchange between institutions and promotes the development of new models for collaboration within the museum sector.

Key areas

Learning, exchange and transformation

TheMuseumsLab brings together experts from different disciplines and contexts. In a multi-stage programme, fellows work together on questions concerning the past, present and future of museums.

This creates spaces for critical discussion, mutual learning and the development of new perspectives on collections, institutions and their social responsibility.

Decolonisation, provenance research and international cooperation

Key themes include decolonisation, provenance research and international cooperation. The working group explores how museums can be reimagined as places of global networking and collaboration.
