Department

Infrastructure and Development
Management and development of the research collection

Overview

The department is responsible for the central management and further development of the physical and digital collections of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. It safeguards the physical integrity of the objects, develops conservation standards and establishes the infrastructural conditions necessary for access, use and sustainable value creation.

Working closely with researchers, other departments and external partners, it lays the groundwork to ensure that the collection remains an effective research and knowledge infrastructure. Key tasks include the physical and digital preparation of the collection for upcoming relocations, the migration of collection data to the central Specify system, the expansion of a high-performance digital catalogue infrastructure, and the further development of the collection strategy in light of future environmental conditions.
