Professor Ali Ahmed Mohamed Mohamedahmed (he/him)

My role at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin is that of a senior geologist and field researcher within the ERC-funded PaleoNile Project, which investigates the paleodiversity and evolutionary history of Sudanese vertebrate faunas. My role is multidisciplinary, integrating geological, stratigraphic, and sedimentological expertise with the project’s paleontological and paleobiological objectives.

I provide expertise on the geology, stratigraphy, and sedimentology of the study areas in Sudan, establishing the geological and depositional context of fossil-bearing localities and interpreting their stratigraphic relationships. I also participate in field investigations and the geological characterization of sites and sedimentary sequences relevant to the project.

In addition to my scientific responsibilities, I serve as a coordinator between the PaleoNile team and relevant Sudanese authorities and institutions, facilitating field activities, local coordination, and communication. My role therefore combines scientific research, field geology, and institutional coordination, helping to integrate the geological framework of the Sudanese localities with the project’s broader paleontological research objectives.
