Share knowledge, gain experience, help shape the future
Volunteering has a long tradition at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. Many people contribute their knowledge, experience and curiosity, helping the museum to evolve through its engagement with society. For example, the giant dragonfly species Cordulegaster kalkmani was discovered with the help of a volunteer.
You too can become part of this community. Our collection, comprising some 30 million objects, offers a wide range of opportunities to get involved. Support researchers in identifying, digitising, labelling or cataloguing objects. Work on databases, contribute to publications or take part in transcription projects. Your involvement helps to further develop the collection as an open knowledge infrastructure for academia and society.
Our structured volunteering programme is aimed at people who wish to gain qualifications and further their education, take on responsibility and play an active role in shaping the museum. At the same time, we create spaces for exchange and interaction. In the ‘Habe die Ehre!’ event series, volunteers provide insights into their work and share their perspectives on research and the collection.
We highlight this commitment, thereby strengthening volunteering at the museum. We regularly publish current opportunities to get involved on our website.
