Der Schwerpunkt meiner Forschung liegt auf der Untersuchung der Artenvielfalt, der Entdeckung neuer Arten und der Wechselwirkungen zwischen Arten in verschiedenen Ökosystemen.

 

1) Entwicklung modernster bioinformatischer Werkzeuge und Sequenzierungsansätze für die Entdeckung neuer Arten und die integrative Taxonomie. Zu den öffentlich zugänglichen Werkzeugen gehören ONTbarcoder für das groß angelegte Nanopore-basierte DNA-Barcoding und IntegraTax zur Unterstützung integrativer taxonomischer Arbeitsabläufe.

 

2) Forschung zu Arteninteraktionen unter Verwendung von Metagenomik und Metabarcoding zur Charakterisierung ökologischer Wechselwirkungen anhand einer breiten Palette von Umweltproben. Diese Ansätze ermöglichen die Untersuchung von Ernährung, Parasiten, Mikrobiomen und anderen ökologischen Wechselwirkungen und liefern Einblicke in die komplexen Beziehungen zwischen Organismen und ihrer Umwelt.
