In meiner Gruppe untersuchen wir die Biodiversität, Verbreitung und Herkunft von Süßwasser-Wirbellosen in den Tropen, insbesondere in Südostasien. Mit Schwerpunkt auf Mollusken und Krebstieren verwenden wir integrative Taxonomie, um eine Grundlage für Folgeforschungen zur Phylogenie und Biogeografie von Arten und höheren Taxa sowie für eingehende Studien zur Speziation, insbesondere in alten Seen, zu schaffen. Zu diesem Zweck wenden wir sowohl morphologische (z. B. Lichtmikroskopie, SEM, µCT, Histologie) als auch genetische (molekulare Phylogenetik, Transkriptomik, Phylogenomik) Methoden an. 

Internationale Zusammenarbeit ist ein wichtiger Teil unserer Forschung, wobei wir langfristige Partnerschaften mit Ländern in Südostasien (Indonesien, Philippinen, Singapur, Thailand, Vietnam) und Westafrika (Kamerun) aufgebaut haben.
