On the occasion of the second Martin Roth Symposium, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier recently announced a new educational program in Berlin: The further education of young managers of African museums is the subject of a pilot project that the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is launching together with the German Foreign Office (AA). The scientific management of the project is in the hands of the Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Research, Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. A close cooperation with other museums in Germany and Africa as well as with German universities is planned.
A compact, virtual training program is the heart of the project, which will be followed by a period of attendance at German museums as part of an internship. This will familiarize a selection of young managers from various museums in Africa with current issues and concepts of management, social impact and responsibility, the location of content, and practical questions relating to the institution of the museum.
