Collect mosquitoes, describe pictures, measure air pollutants: More than 130 Citizen Science projects, in which citizens actively participate in research, collect data via smartphone apps or count animals, are now presented on Bürger schaffen Wissen, the central platform for citizen research in Germany. Now the services offered by Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD) and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin are being further expanded. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is funding the project with around 626,000 euros until the end of 2022. Among other things, quality assurance in Citizen Science projects and the expansion of a nationwide Citizen Science network are to be strengthened. The medium-term goal is to appoint regional contact persons throughout Germany who will assist researchers, for example at universities and research institutes, in setting up new Citizen Science projects. They will be supported by Wissenschaft im Dialog and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin with guidelines, workshops and training courses.
