A Performative Lecture with Simon Faithfull

Together with artists, scientists and citizens, KOEXISTENZ, as part of the Contagious Cities project developed by the Wellcome Trust, would like to initiate a new debate on the relationships between humans, animals and viruses.

In a performative lecture, Simon Faithfull explores how humans have attempted to name, classify and impose order onto the tangled web of species with which we share this planet. The lecture will be illustrated by using the artist's many drawings, writing and video-works that explore our relationship with the 'aliens' that surround us, and will also ask how we might, as a species, be evolving, mutating or merging in the future.

His artistic intervention "An Arbitrary Taxonomy of Birds" is part of KOEXISTENZ and currently on display on the first floor of the museum. He lives and works in Berlin and London and teaches as Associate Professor at Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, London.
