New Songs from the Earth & Changing Natures: The Museum für Naturkunde as a Guest at the Neuköllner Oper

Titelbild Neue Lieder von der Erde der Neuköllner Oper

The collection experiment Changing Natures and the Neuköllner Oper invite you to create new stories for a new geologic epoch together: Bring your own contribution, everyday object or testimoniy from the past to the opera and tell us your personal story about human-made environmental changes. Afterwards, the hall of the Neuköllner Oper itself will be transformed into a kind of musical museum that has archived things like ski boots or phenomena like seasons from a lost world.

Collection Workshop and Music Theatre

For the music theater New Songs from the Earth, artists from the Neuköllner Oper, together with the Stegreif - The Improvising Symphony Orchestra and international authors from Germany and Syria, put together contemporary experiences, images and feelings about the concept of "earth" into a musical-scenic mosaic: They quote the music of Gustav Mahler and continue it in new compositions.

Mahler's songs tell of humans in the cyclical change of nature between spring and autumn, longing and despair. All of these are reference points and inspirations for New songs from the earth - a newly composed theatrical symphony about our earth that we want to reflect, preserve and celebrate with you. Two special guides and a stranded phoenix-like creature humorously lead through the evening and show what we could lose if nothing changes in our way of life.

The concept thus takes inspiration from the project Changing Natures and ties in poetically with the idea of an archive of memories on environmental change.
