The Mutant Project: Inside the Global Race to Genetically Modify Humans (St. Martin's Press)

The world was turned upside down in 2018 when a young scientist announced that he was responsible for the birth of two girls. Lulu and Nana, as they are known, were the first human beings whose genome was deliberately altered in the embryonic state. Science fiction has become reality. A debate has sparked controversy worldwide. Anthropologist Eben Kirksey’s new book brings readers to the frontiers of the new technology, called Crispr-Cas9, which was used to change the babies’ genome.

Kirksey will give us a sneak peek—reading excerpts from "The Mutant Project: Inside the Global Race to Genetically Modify Humans" which will be released by St. Martin's Press on November 10th. A scientific journey will takes us around the world—from China, to the United States, and beyond where researchers are forging ahead with new CRISPR experiments in humans. Kirksey is a guest of the “ZukunftMensch”-project, which discusses the consequences of the change in the human genome with the public at the Museum of Natural History in Berlin.
