Open-Access-Policy

As an integrated research museum, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin faces up to the changes in science and plays an active role in shaping them. Science and society meet here to negotiate the future of the earth and the knowledge about it. The objective in the coming years is to further advance the opening of the Museum of Natural History. As a member of the Leibniz Association, the museum follows the "Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Scientific Knowledge" and the "Open Access Policy of the Leibniz Association 2016-2020". Open Access stands for unrestricted and free access to quality-checked scientific information on the Internet. This can accelerate scientific innovation processes and make research results more visible, thereby strengthening the knowledge society. Open Access publications are an important component of Open Science. In order to further strengthen this development and to anchor it within the institution, an Open Access policy has been adopted which takes into account the special requirements placed on the Museum of Natural History. The in-house journals have been genuine Open Access journals since 2014.
