With volunteer power to the last planting

Volunteers working in the front garden and special exhibition called Pollinator-Pathmaker of the of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin

The insect world needs support - this is now common knowledge. On 21st of September 2023, Deutsche Bahn and Museum für Naturkunde Berlin therefore joined forces in a voluntary day of action to garden together for the preservation of biodiversity.

The venue was the Pollinator-Pathmaker Garden on the Museum's forecourt, commissioned by the LAS Art Foundation and opened this spring. The focus was on an energetic team of DB employees who donated a day of their labor to this ecological cause as part of #DBpacktan - DB's social action week. Accompanied by the Königliche Gartenakademie and a team of volunteers from the museum, approximately 500 bulbs and more than 80 perennials were put into the ground for a final planting campaign this year, beds were cleared of garbage and wild weeds, and watered.

The joint venture was worthwhile not only for our pollinator insects, which will find plenty of food here again next year. The opportunity to volunteer as a team at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin is also reflected in the joy of "...every time I drive by the museum on my way to work, I now look at the front yard knowing that I myself worked on the Pollinator-Pathmaker Garden and made a contribution to nature conservation," as one DB employee said.
