Press release,

The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin regrets to announce that 37,243 museum customers were affected by the cyber attack. The hackers stole sensitive data from them. We apologize to those affected. Affected by the hacker attack are some of the customers who have purchased tickets in the museum's online shop since 2021 and paid with Paypal. In total, more than 1.86 million people visited the museum during the period.

As reported, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin fell victim to a targeted hacker attack in mid-October. The museum immediately filed a report and immediately informed the public about the incident. Immediately after the cyber attack, a specialized and renowned first response cybersecurity service provider was commissioned to analyze the attack. This analysis found that the hackers stole sensitive data from 2 percent of the museum's customers. We informed all of these customers specifically and offered them extensive help. This affects 37,243 customers who have purchased tickets in the museum's online shop since 2021 and paid with Paypal.

The internal crisis team is currently working with renowned forensic service providers to clean up and safely rebuild the systems. Emergency operation ensures that the museum's central services are running and that other services can be gradually put into operation.

The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin can still be visited without restrictions and tickets can be purchased safely. Further information about purchasing tickets, booking educational programmes and accessing the museum can be found on our homepage.
