Finding your Nature through Food

Auf einem Tisch in einem Garten stehen Holzkisten mit verschiedenem Gemüse und Kräutern.

Project period: September 2023

The way we produce food and feed ourselves has far-reaching effects on both us and our planet. Our actions can destroy habitats or create diverse cultural landscapes with ecosystem services. Our eating habits and the rituals associated with them are closely interwoven with our culture. Food forms a link between all living beings and meals serve as a means of exchange and knowledge transfer.

Workshop "Finding your nature through food"

16.09.2023, Rühstädt - The motto of the "Finding your Nature through Food" workshop at the NABU Visitor Center in Rühstädt was "To the table!". At three stations, the participants met local producers together with the project team and talked to them about regional agriculture. Food was also collected during the excursions, which was then prepared into a meal together in the garden of the NABU visitor center in Rühstädt.
At Solawi Waldgarten, we were able to gain an insight into the workings of community-supported agriculture. At Fischerei Schröder, there was of course fresh, regional fish and an insight into the fishing trade. Fruit and eggs could be collected directly on site in Rühstädt and processed into cakes, which were then baked in the wood-fired bush oven.

Collecting, preparing and eating together created a sensual, decelerated approach to nature and food that is often pushed into the background nowadays. It was particularly impressive that almost all the food and utensils came from the local area around Rühstädt. We are delighted to have spent this day with you and to have seen the network's projects, which were just ideas a few months ago, put into practice.

  • Mit Äpfeln aus lokalem Anbau wird vor Ort ein Kuchen gebacken.
