The department Biodiversity- and Geoinformatics has it spectrum of tasks in the application of informatics analysis methods and information technology based on data for biodiversity, environmental factors, geological events and the interconnection with other data. The development of technical solutions is driven by the demands in science and society. In addition to the science programme's overarching goals the department persues the following objectives:
- development and establishment of innovative methods for capturing, analysis and visualization of biodiversity and geo data (e.g. acoustic monitoring, bioacoustical and optical pattern recognition, smartphone and web applications),
- practical application of the developed solutions in examplary projects in close collaboration with scientists from other disciplines,
- development of effective analyses and methods for the quality management of heterogenous biodiversity data
All tasks are conducted together with different stakeholders of science and society.
