Press release,

On Saturday, 28 June 2025, the research museum will open its doors for the Long Night of Science from 17:00 to 00:00 and invites all curious visitors to experience science up close. With a varied programme of hands-on activities, exhibitions, guided tours and workshops, the museum offers exciting insights into current research projects, fascinating collections and pioneering technologies. Visitors of all ages can look forward to an inspiring night. Live speakers will be available throughout the museum for direct dialogue.

Programme items:

- On the trail of prehistoric dinosaurs: ancient footprints and fossils from the Permian period 290 million years ago from the Bromacker in Thuringia come to life in the foyer.

- Cosmic dust & meteorites: In the Mineral Hall, micrometeorites and rocks from outer space provide exciting insights into the formation of our solar system and research into planetary defence.

- Green evolution in the dinosaur hall: 420 million years of plant development - from fossilised leaves to ‘dinosaur food’ - about plants as climate archives and keys to the history of the earth.

- The species discovery factory: AI, robots and DNA sequencers are revolutionising biodiversity research - you can watch live as new species are discovered.

- Research for a resilient city: Together with the Berlin School of Public Engagement and Open Science and ‘Zukunft findet Stadt - Hochschulnetzwerk für ein resilientes Berlin’, we invite visitors to think about mobility and barriers and to try out for themselves in the museum how certain restrictions affect personal mobility and social participation.

- ‘Life Taxidermy’ and microscopy centre: How are museum exhibits created? What do butterflies, fossils and bird wings look like under the microscope?

- Workshop ‘How healthy are your potatoes?’: DNA analyses in the molecular biology laboratory - for hobby gardeners (with registration).

- Guided tours behind the scenes: Rarely opened collections - such as the world of spiders and insects - can be experienced on exclusive guided tours through the research museum.

- Fossil treasures with a soft centre: In the planning laboratory, visitors can learn more about fossil invertebrates such as ammonites - and how their stories will soon become part of the new permanent exhibition. Your questions and perspectives are welcome!

- Science at the museum: Visitors are invited to share their ideas and questions about research at the museum - and to join in the discussion about how ‘Science at the Museum’ is lived today.

- Agriculture 12,000 years ago: In the special exhibition ‘Dinosaurs!’, the WiNoDa Knowledge Lab provides insights into the flora of the Neolithic period in Göbekli Tepe and its role in early food production.

- Experience soil in the wormhole: The mobile ‘wormhole’ from Weltacker Berlin e. V. provides fascinating insights into soil life - to see, hear and feel. Experience why healthy soil secures our future.
