Research and Responsibility

Our research collection is a globally significant archive of knowledge. At the same time, parts of this collection originated in colonial contexts. The project provides digital access to fossil and archival material from the Tendaguru Expedition and promotes transparency as well as international cooperation with partners in the regions of origin.

ELIO Lab

ELIO brings together the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and technology companies to advance the digitisation of objects in galleries, libraries, archives and museums – and to make them usable in the long term.

Queering Nature

How do researchers find out the gender of a dinosaur? What and whose knowledge is (re-)presented in the Natural History Museum – and what remains hidden? Queering Nature focuses on a queer historical view of nature and science.

Vielfalt Verstehen

Berlin is a very green city with lots of nature. In some cases we still know too little about the local nature, especially how it is changing. Research into nature in Berlin and better access to urban nature and environmental education projects are the focus of our new interdisciplinary project.
