Press release,

"Preserving the richness of biological diversity is one of the great challenges for the future of mankind, which is the subject of intensive research by scientists at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. Events such as the Long Night of the Museums on 31 August, during which this knowledge is shared with visitors, inspire enthusiasm and promote commitment to nature. This enables us to actively shape our future," says Johannes Vogel, Director General of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. "The legacy of Alexander von Humboldt - it is tangible in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin; not only on the Long Night of the Museums and not only in the anniversary year of the natural scientist.”

In addition to the opportunity to visit the Humboldt Intervention and get inspired by the minerals and rocks collected by A. v. Humboldt, the Long Night also offers the opportunity to get acquainted with Humboldt's companion, student friend and teacher. The Historical Centre presents original documents by Leopold von Buchs, an important geologist who is currently being researched by scientists. In the transcription workshop, anyone interested can participate in deciphering discoveries that have changed the world.

A small exhibition on the world's largest national park and its unique and little explored biological diversity will also be enthusiastically received. The WWF, the Colombian Embassy and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin are working together on its research and conservation.

In addition to guided tours behind the scenes, e.g. into the mammal collection, into the CT laboratory and the preparation workshops, there are numerous action stands in the exhibitions. Here you can grind amber yourself or acquire an insect box sponsorship. The microscopy centre invites you to discover the diversity of small creatures and immerse yourself in the world of science. You can also bring your own objects with you.

Those who are interested will gain insights into bee literature and how it is made available for modern, scientific re-use through current digitisation projects. Anyone who has ever wondered how penguins can hear underwater can familiarize themselves with a research project on this subject on which the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin is working with cooperation partners.

In the special exhibition ARTEFAKTE, which deals with the influence of humans on the environment, visitors can expect, among other things, a Virtual Reality Station, interesting facts about the water cycle, demonstrations on environmentally friendly energy use and a knowledge quiz.

And last but not least: Visit T. rex Tristan Otto and enjoy a cool cocktail at the bar in the Sauriersaal - in front of a unique backdrop!
