Cooperation
Cooperations
Research museums such as the Museum für Naturkunde do not work in isolation, but are always part of national and international networks. Networking with other research institutions and policy stakeholders promotes exchange and is the driving force behind innovative research. More about the Memberships of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin you can find here.

Evolutionary Morphology
Evolutionary Morphology The Evolutionary Morphology department is concerned with the evolution of genetic blue-prints and characteristic complexities. Various methods are used, including modern imaging procedures and different types of digitalization, as well as molecular-biological approaches.

Social Innovation Unit
Social Innovation Unit The Social Innovation Unit is dedicated to the interactions between science and various stakeholders at the interfaces between different scientific disciplines, policy, civil society and business. The department actively promotes the establishment of cooperations and networks, offers professional, needs-based training and further education in the field of public engagement and promotes cooperation between groups of actors in the urban natural space.

Applying
Applying The Museum für Naturkunde is aiming to become a thought leader in the field of citizen science. The Museum has been building a strong portfolio in citizen science, participation and public engagement in science. Jointly with Wissenschaft im Dialog, the Museum set up the German online platform for citizen science projects: Bürger schaffen Wissen (citizens create knowledge; https://www.buergerschaffenwissen.de/). The Website connects citizens with research, but Museum staff also act as advisors to project leaders.

Advising
Advising The Museum engages in policy advice at various levels – from the chairmanship of advisory boards to the European Commission to informal administrative assistance to public offices and workshops at the International Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). Advice to policy makers uses a variety of entry points: from local to international and from informal to formal. The Museum is active in all such activities.

Communicating
Communicating The Museum’s state of the art exhibits based on authentic specimens and science draw unparalleled numbers of visitors – in Berlin and worldwide. The Museum’s exhibition development follows a seemingly simple premise: to create exhibits in-house that highlight original specimens of the Museum’s own collection, that put its scientific expertise and its researchers at the centre and that experiment with novel approaches to science communication.

Research Data Management Infrastructure
Research Data Management Infrastructure All research processes, infrastructure tasks and transfer activities of the Museum generate and process diverse data. The versatile nature of these data is a challenge for the management, archiving and ensuring the long-term availability of research results. For this reason, the department Science Data Management evaluates, develops and implements software components for data management. These so-called basic components form thematically and functionally clearly defined areas, which together form the Research Data Management Infrastructure (RDMS).

Research Information Technology Infrastructure
Research Information Technology Infrastructure One of the core elements enabling research, infrastructure and transfer activities is the constant further development of the central IT services in the building complex and all affiliated institutions of the museum. The IT Services unit is responsible for all aspects of the IT infrastructure.
