What are you doing here ?

This format takes the form of a series of public talks in the experimental field between an FJN student and MfN staff from different fields, who present their work and working methods.

In the video project "What are you actually doing here?", Paula and Laura dedicate themselves to the people and objects behind the scenes of the #mfnberlin. They talk about their everyday work, their motivation, their responsibilities and their research as scientists at the museum

Behavioural biologist Mirjam Knörnschild shows us how she analyses the songs of bats with the help of technical visualisations and thus traces the communication of the flying mammals

Jason Dunlop, curator of the arachnid and millipede collection, shows us a historical monograph on extinct arachnids and a replica of a 300-million-year-old scorpion.

Yori Schultka, project coordinator, shows us her notebooks that have accompanied her since she started working at the museum. She talks about her attitude, her early days at the museum, the diversity of the house and her enthusiasm for her own job.

Stefan Schultka, retired head curator of the palaeobotanical collections, presents us with a 300-million-year-old fossilised fern that is representative of his work. This cultural-historical object comes from the collection of Ernst Friedrich von Schlotheim (1764-1832), the founder of #palaeobotany. Becoming a curator in #mfnberlin has always been his career and life goal.
