Tue | 12/15/2015 | 00:24 Minerals Germany’s largest mineral collection in the Berlin Museum für Naturkunde contains approximately 200,000 specimens, representing 65 % of all known minerals. In the display collection, visitors can feast their eyes on 1,077 different mineral types. The foundation of the collection were the minerals and rocks of the Prussian King’s mineral collection of 1781. Some pieces were brought back from famous exhibitions, such as the precious stones Alexander von Humboldt brought from Russia.

It is this interdependence that makes our planet unique in the solar system.

The exhibition takes visitors on a voyage through space and time to the origins of the solar system. It allows insights into how, where and when matter emerged, which, ultimately, was the prerequisite for the evolution of the Earth and life on it.

Millions of preparations are kept in large storage rooms away from the public gaze. However, their significance as archives of life continues to grow. They provide important information for biodiversity and evolution research. 30 million specimens are stored in the Museums für Naturkunde in Berlin. A large proportion are preserved in the wet collection and are now accessible in one of the world’s most technically advanced collection buildings – the Wet Collection Wing.

The training courses are for groups of 10 people or more. Dates and other focal points can be arranged individually.

All formats, offers and information can be found on the following pages. Digital formats With the digital formats for kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools, students learn about scientific topics through everyday practical examples, in an artistic way and in relation to the reality of their own lives.
