EVENT CANCELLED
Due to unforseen technical breakdown today's lecture 'Wretched Earth' has to be cancelled.
A Performative Lecture with Sybille Neumeyer
Together with artists, scientists and citizens, KOEXISTENZ, as part of the Contagious Cities project developed by the Wellcome Trust, would like to initiate a new debate on the relationships between humans, animals and viruses.
In a performative lecture, Sybille Neumeyer will reflect on sympoetic* relationships, cross-species interactions and thinking in terms of collaboration, co-evolution and mutual aid**. She examines how viruses shift existing paradigms and how current knowledge about microorganisms troubles previous perspectives on the world. Post-individualistic attitudes and symbiotic interactions are fertile ground for political, social and cultural concepts that are indispensable for the art of living on a damaged planet***. In a prismatic reflection on soil the artist discusses correlations, conflicts and potentials between humans, the environment and microorganisms.
[* after Lynn Margulis ** after Pjotr Kropotkin *** after Anna Tsing || The title of the lecture –„Wretched Earth“ – is quoted from the same titled "Third Text“ article by Shela Sheikh & Ros Gray]
Her artistic walk „Voicing encounters - a narrative cartography of virus" – developed as a participative form of extended collective reading practice and critical (hi)storytelling – is part of the project KOEXISTENZ.
