Since 2016, the so-called City Nature Challenge (CNC) has been taking place worldwide. In this friendly competition, cities compete against each other to record as many plant and animal species as possible in urban areas in the spirit of citizen science.
Mathilde Bessert-Nettelbeck from the Citizen Science Team at the Museum für Naturkunde will organize a morning identification tour of Tempelhofer Feld. Together with the eight participants, we will report as many discoveries as possible in the iNaturalist App. During this tour we will focus on birds, plants and insects - but we will be on the lookout for all living things! Are you just interested in the surrounding nature? Are you already an expert in identifying animals or plants? Help us document the diversity of Berlin's flora and fauna!
To get a better understanding of the special nature at Tempelhofer Feld, the association Grün Berlin offers another guided tour on the same day.
In addition, an online meeting is planned for the following week, where we will try to identify all undetermined discoveries together. To participate in the event, a mobile device to upload the observation is urgently needed. We ask in advance that you download the iNaturalist app. Feel free to bring your cameras or binoculars! Determinations on iNaturalist are only valid with photos or audio recordings as evidence.
Other helpful apps include the Naturblick app or BirdNet for identifying bird songs and calls.
Please note: This event is NOT a traditional nature tour. It is really about observing and reporting various animals, plants and fungi. The organizers will not primarily lecture on nature, but will of course explain and assist with identifying and uploading sightings.

- April 28, 2023, 8:00 a.m. to approximately 11:00 a.m.
- Exploration of habitats & recording of organisms at Tempelhofer Feld.
- Meeting point is at 8:00 am at the entrance Herrfurtherstraße.
- Basic requirement is a mobile device and the installation of the iNaturalist App (Google Play Store / Apple App Store).
- Additional welcome aids are binoculars, camera and provisions
