Kaffeeklatsch mit Wissenschaft

bis

The "Kaffeeklatsch mit Wissenschaft" in the Experimental Field for participation and open science continues lively in March. Get ready to get exciting insights into their work from scientists and drink coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is welcome to ask questions and contribute to the entertainment!

This time the guest is the paleobotanist Eva-Maria Sadowski, who is researching plant inclusions in amber. Amber, fossil tree resin, and its inclusions are well known in paleobotany for the high conservation potential of delicate and small plant structures, which are otherwise rarely found in fossil records. Eva-Maria Sadowski's research is mainly focused on plant inclusions in Baltic Amber. Due to these inclusions we know today how the 'Baltic Amber Forest' used to look like. Besides flowers, small fruits, leaves and plant hairs, mosses, fungi and lichens are also found in this fossil resin.

On the basis of these inclusions the composition of the forest, the climate and the relationships between the forest organisms can be reconstructed.

Bring your questions for Dr. Sadowski and come by the museum's Experimental Field for a coffee. We look forward to seeing you!
