Press release,

A year ago on December 17th, theTyrannosaurus rex at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin came face to face with visitors for the first time – and the stream of visitors has not ebbed away since. No less than 815,000 visitors from Germany and abroad were thrilled to say hello to Tristan Otto. In 2016, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin had 761,000 visitors, which is 40% more than the previous year. “The dinosaur superstar is deemed a unique find by international experts and studied in Berlin using cutting-edge technology. Research teams will feed their results gradually into the exhibition“, says Johannes Vogel, Director General of the Museum, “we expect the first scientific publications in spring 2017.”

During his first year, the now world-famous T. rex Tristan Otto appeared in many weird and wonderful places. He (at least a copy of his skull) went to the Naturkundemuseum underground station, from where he travelled to various European capitals as an ambassador for the Berlin advertising campaign “Pop into Berlin”. In time for the first anniversary, the themed underground station Naturkundemuseum had a makeover with poster motifs of Tristan Otto’s skull and teeth. Tristan Otto’s virtual incarnation came to visit the CEBIT exhibition and can be viewed in an online exhibition. Tristan Otto met Federal Education and Research Minister Johanna Wanka and Berlin’s mayor Michael Müller, who came to welcome the 500,000th visitor of the exhibition. Tristan Otto also had a charming broad smile for Hertha football player Verdad Ibisevic, tennis star Novak Djokovic and boxer Arthur Abraham.

Enthusiasts who want to take Tristan Otto home can do so now – for a mere 69.95 euros, they can purchase a 1:10 scale copy of the skull in the Museum’s shop.  .
